1. Disable and Enable “Show Desktop Icons”

Try to do the following:

  1. Right-click on the desktop.

  3. Even if the option “Show Desktop icons” is already checked they may be hidden. Uncheck “Show Desktop icons”.
  4. Repeat the same and Check the flag again: seletc "Show desktop icons" in "View"

  1. Didn’t work. The ONLY way I can restore them is open Windows explorer and navigate to user/desktop, copy all entries and past them on to the desktop. But then they disappear on the next reboot. 🙁

  3. Thanks, #5 worked for me, also I have had the taskbar crash like when you taskkill explorer and i never knew that you can just run that again.

  4. I only lost the second line icons on the mainscreen and did not get them back with the displayed items above. When I change the icons from small to normal, I do see a part of the icons, but they are partly covered by a black quare as big as a small icon.

  5. I tried various methods but no luck. when I right click, nothing happens. Also when I close any window, I can see flicker of the desktop icons and then they disappear. its has been super frustrating and wasted so much time on it without any results. Can you please tell me what else can be done??
