Apparently, you want to add it to be able to quickly call system settings or navigate to your disks list: hard disks, SSDs, USB flash sticks or DVD/BluRay, right? Well, let us see how to get it back. Here is the simple tutorial on how to add My Computer (This PC) icon to desktop in Windows 10 and 7. 
Do not create My Computer (or This PC) icon manually by dragging and dropping to the desktop. It won’t have all the features of a system icon!

So if you want to add “This PC” icon to your desktop perform the following steps:

  1. Right-click on the desktop.
    2.
  2. Click “Personalize”:
  3. Go to “Themes”
  4. Click on “Desktop icon settings”: 
  5. Set the checkbox “Computer”.
  6. Click “OK” to save changes:

  • You are missing a step after choosing personalize you have to click the settings gear to get to personalization where the theme section is.

  • Yep, I continue to get more more PO'd at Microsoft!!! Apparently NO one there has even an inkling of what "IF it's NOT broke, DON'T fix it!" means!!! Continually having to battle their ridiculous changes! PLUS, then they go and mess things up with updates time and AGAIN!!!! GRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Thanks for the quick "FIX" here! FYI, I STILL have one desktop and one laptop with XP.... and soooooo much more practical AND easy to use -- and work on! -- then 10... tho I've gutted 10 (AND installed an old MS Office) as much as possible to get back to a simpler world! ;-) Again thank you for saving me a few precious minutes!

  • You might want to warn people that your 'Fix' on the Windows 10 might cause all your desktop icon to be moved to the left side of the screen.
